Angiotensin-2 Receptor Antagonists
Angiotensin-2 (AT-2) receptor antagonists produce results that are similar to those produced by ACE inhibitors, but produce less cough, a common side effect of ACE inhibitors. Rather than lowering levels of angiotensin II, AT-2 receptors prevent the chemical from negatively affecting the heart and blood vessels.
AT-2 receptors are taken orally by prescription only. Some popular AT-2 receptors include Atacand, Teveten, Cozaar, Micardis, Avapro, and Diovan.
Side effects can include headache, dry cough and dizziness, but to a lesser extent than ACE inhibitors.
